Founder of Real Fruity Ice Cream

Realfruity Ice Cream started with a simple idea that turned into something a lot bigger than dessert: a space where people can feel good, feel seen, and enjoy something genuinely joyful.

Founder Jacob Koenig first discovered real fruit ice cream while travelling in New Zealand—fresh frozen fruit blended on the spot into creamy, bright, made-to-order scoops. It wasn’t just the flavour that stuck with him, but the experience itself: fun, open, a little unexpected, and shared with people in the moment. He brought that idea home to Hamilton and started building Realfruity from the ground up.

What began as a mobile ice cream setup quickly grew into something rooted in community. For two summers, Jacob travelled around Hamilton and nearby neighbourhoods, serving ice cream at markets, events, and pop-ups. Along the way, he wasn’t just testing flavours—he was building relationships, remembering faces, learning what people loved, and slowly shaping a brand with the community instead of just for it.

In 2025, through savings and a successful crowdfunding campaign, Realfruity opened its first permanent home on King Street in Westdale. The opening wasn’t quiet—it was full of energy, celebration, rose petals, music, and free ice cream shared with the community that helped bring it to life.

At its core, Realfruity is about more than ice cream. It’s about creating an inclusive, welcoming space where everyone belongs. That spirit shows up in everything: the friendly atmosphere, the playful name, and the intention behind every scoop served.

Today, Realfruity continues to grow as a year-round destination for real fruit ice cream, frozen yogurt, and rotating seasonal treats. It’s a place inspired by New Zealand tradition, shaped by Hamilton community energy, and grounded in one simple promise: everyone is welcome here, and there’s always room for a little joy.
